With Trump basically trying to cut a „Ukraine peace deal“ at all costs, he’s not getting closer to becoming a Nobel price winner, he’s bargaining with the believability of the USA as an ally.
When the USA became part of the Budapest Memorandum, they intentionally did not agree to militarily helping Ukraine in case of a(Russia)n attack; however, abandoning Ukraine (e.g. by stopping military supplies even if paid for by Europe) and handing it over to Russia would nevertheless be an utterly dishonorable and shameful act for a country which once claimed to be the leader of the free world and a proponent of democracy, human rights etc..
Who could still respect a country that throws other democratic nations being attacked by a dictator under the bus for no better reason than its leader wanting to brush up his „peace-making“ statistics?
And what a kind of peace-making is forcing the victim of a war into submission, if not the worst and most cynical kind imaginable?
If Donald Trump continues his style of politics and doesn’t stop prioritizing shallow balance-sheet-only wins over values, integrity and honor, he’ll dishonor the USA and ruin their reputation for a long time.
